How do you raise up new leaders?

July 20, 2010

It’s very impressive to see an old steam engine pulling into a station with brakes squealing and clouds of steam billowing. But statistics say that 92% of that is show and only 8% of it is effective power. In the church we must constantly be looking to reverse those statistics and to raise up new leaders to step up and serve. One of our core values at CBC is raising up the next generation of leaders, but this must be a planned and purposeful goal. Raising up new leaders does not happen because we want it badly. It does not happen because we need it to. It happens when we purposefully structure towards that end.

So how do you structure to raise up new leaders? What steps do they take to grow into becoming leaders that can in turn raise up more leaders to follow in their footsteps? How do you become a leader that other leaders will follow? Here are a few principles to being a leader that people will follow:

  1. People follow leaders who know them and care about them.
  2. People follow leaders who are filled with energy and life.
  3. People follow leaders who are team players.
  4. People follow leaders who say “we”, not “I”.

Great advice. This advice can be used by anyone at any stage of life. I will share this information with my school aged children and challenge them to be the best leaders among their peers. Thanks!

leadership is a commitment to those that follow. encouragement, dedication, putting their situation ahead of yours and reinforcing the truth of our Bible and encouragement with the scriptures.
