Fresh Commitment to Preach the Word

August 18, 2010

The preacher is called to preach the Word of God accurately and faithfully.  There are many temptations to preach other things and end up neglecting the primacy of preaching the powerful, living word of God.  Preaching the word can be unpopular in an entertainment-oriented, short attention span generation, but preaching the word is a must if we are to fulfill our calling.  The greatest power ever known is the spoken word of God.  It has called worlds into being, toppled empires, healed and comforted the sick, shaken the proud and resurrected the dead.  Yet in far too many pulpits, that powerful word lies unopened, unspoken and therefore uncomprehended. The word of God preached poorly has more power than your opinions preached powerfully.

Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

I wish all pastors understood this. Life would be sweeter.
