The first church was a church that grew exponentially. Every day, hundreds of people were making decisions to follow Christ and join a fellowship of believers that became known as the “Church.”
Just as the first church grew, so our churches today can and should grow. We should be adding people to our meetings. Growth comes in all forms. It can be numerical growth, influence growth, or spiritual growth of the congregation.
One of the most exciting types of growth is conversion growth, when people who were lost find their way to Christ and become disciples. Growth is a definite atmosphere and something that happens when the leaders are positioning the church for growth. Here are four leadership attitudes that will position you and the church for harvest and growth.
1. “Enlarge me and make me a growth leader.”
Every leader must have a vision for church growth, increase, and numerical growth. The vision for growth is the capacity to see both the needs that must be met and the possibilities.
A growth leader sees the opportunities for growth whereas a non-growth leader sees only the problems and becomes complacent, accepting a non-growth environment. Until the leaders catch the vision for growth, the church will not grow.
2. “Increase my faith to believe in multiplication growth.”
If you do not believe that growth can happen, ask for faith to believe that it can happen! The apostles asked Jesus to increase their faith (see Luke 17:5) and we can do the same.
3. “Now is the time for our church to break all growth barriers.”
Today is the best of times for church growth. There are more winnable people and more resources for winning them than at any other period of history.
Now is the time to attempt great things for God and see this time as our time. No procrastination, no waiting. The harvest is ready. Now is the time! Lift up your eyes to see the multitudes coming to your meetings to be saved and transformed.
4. “We will not be restricted by anything for any reason.”
Break off limitations, confinements, restrictions, or small thinking. See the vision set before you and make a decision to go up to meet the challenges.
Make room for the vision to be enlarged and drive out the enemies through faith, prayer, and fasting. Then take the promise of multiplication and growth that God has given you.
Today is the day for growth! Be a leader who has an attitude that expects the harvest to come.
