“The Holy Spirit speaks to thirsty hearts whose longings have been wakened by the touch of God within them.” –AW Tozer

There are many voices that try to get our attention, and many voices that would seek to shape our life and destiny. The voice that is most important is the voice of God that speaks loud and clear in your own heart. That voice is heard most distinctly when the heart is overflowing with the Holy Spirit and the things of God.

The heart is the inner spiritual man inside each person who has accepted Jesus as savior. Whatever is in your heart eventually overflows to other areas in your life. A heart overflowing with the things of God is constantly moving, stirring, gushing with God’s word, prayer, and praise.

Here are three declarations you can make to cultivate an overflowing heart.

1. I will cleanse my heart from all the unnecessary clutter.

Clutter refers to those activities or people who crowd out the voice of God. They could even be good things but taken too far become clutter that confuses God’s voice. Get rid of the baggage, the thoughts that only cause self-doubt, and clean out your heart so that there is a fresh slate for God to write on.

2. I will fill my heart with the words and thoughts of God.

Once you have cleaned the clutter from your heart, fill it with God’s word that is full of great thoughts about you – how much God loves you, His promise to always be with you and lead you through highs and lows, and much more.

Andrew Murray wrote, “Through His Word, His thoughts and His grace enter our hearts and lives. Take time each day to read the Bible, even if it be only a few verses…” Fill your heart with God’s Word and then reflect on it, allowing the truths to become real in your heart and mind.

3. I will fill my heart with the presence of God.

To be in the presence of God is to be revived. To be in the vivid, personalized presence of God is how we develop an overflowing heart. Live an inner life of unceasing prayer and strive to think, say, and do what pleases God.

Your heart will overflow with something. Will it be full of uplifting, God things?
